Texas youth softball coach arrested in online child sex sting | #childpredator | #onlinepredator | #sextrafficing

A Montgomery County youth softball coach was arrested Thursday after authorities say he attempted to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl.

Nathan Scott Velez, 37, was arrested for online solicitation of a minor—a third-degree felony—after allegedly seeking sex with a detective who was posing as a 15-year-old girl, according to a Facebook post from Harris County Constable Precinct One Alan Rosen. Velez coaches a softball team in Montgomery County and is a lineman for a technology company.

Velez, who is from Magnolia, faces two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.

Video footage shared by the Harris County Pct. One constable shows Velez handcuffed, standing against a law enforcement vehicle.

“We will always do all we can to protect children,” Constable Rosen said. “Our detectives patrol cyberspace and they catch predators.”

Officials say the charges follow a weeks-long investigation which began in early April in an online chat forum. Velez allegedly requested nude photos, discussed sex acts he wanted to perform with the undercover detective and made arrangements to meet the 15-year-old girl in person.

Rosen detailed court records, featuring messages exchanged between Velez and the detective.

“When do I get to see your body?” Velez allegedly wrote. “When do I get to see you in person?”

Anyone with information about Velez’s alleged inappropriate behavior with children is asked to contact the Constable Precinct One’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at 713-222-4929.

“We need everyone’s help to keep children safe,” Rosen said. “If you see something or know something, please give us a call.”
