After his prison sentence, Lowenstein will serve of mandatory supervised release from three years to life, which will be determined by the Prison Review Board. He is also now classified as a sexual predator — meaning he is required to be registered as a sex offender for life.
This plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
In this case, the People presented evidence that on July 25, 2023, deputies with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Carle in Urbana for a sexual assault report. Upon arrival, deputies determined that the minor victim disclosed to health professionals that they were sexually assaulted by Lowenstein.
A forensic interview then took place at the Vermilion County Child Advocacy Center.
“This sentence holds this sexual predator accountable for the devastating choices he made and removes a dangerous offender from our community,” said State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy. “Seeking justice for victims and protecting children remain among the highest priorities of my office.”
