KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Florida man is in custody after prosecutors say he arranged to meet a 15-year-old girl – who was actually an undercover agent.
The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office says it charged Jason Groulx, 50, of Pensacola, on Wednesday, June 10, with attempted enticement of a child and attempted possession of child pornography.
How It Unfolded
Prosectors say the investigation began when an undercover agent posed as a 15-year-old girl and posted an advertisement on a commercial sex ad website.
Investigators note that Groulx contacted the agent by text and arranged a meeting at a Clay County casino.
He arrived at the casino around 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday and was arrested, authorities add.
What He Faces
Under Missouri law:
- Enticement of a child is punishable by up to life in prison
- Attempted possession of child sexual abuse material carries up to 4 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000
What Prosecutors Are Saying
“These allegations strike at the heart of our mission to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. Child predators create the demand that fuels the exploitation and trafficking of vulnerable young people,” says Prosecutor Zach Thompson.
“By aggressively investigating and prosecuting those who seek to exploit minors, we are working to prevent victimization before it occurs and to combat all aspects of human trafficking,” Thompson adds.
What’s Next
Groulx remained in custody Thursday morning on a $50,000 bond.
A court date has not yet been scheduled.
