The Thorsby City Council approved nine new policies to finish off the final requirements of a state audit involving cybersecurity at the June 15 council meeting. The policy approvals came as the last step in an audit process that the Thorsby Police Department has been working on since June 1.

“They gave me an outline of what we needed to get done by July 2,” said Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett. “We have some of this already in place. The email states that non-compliance would result in fines and in penalties.”

As part of the audit, the entire police department had to complete online testing to stay up to date on cybersecurity and be fingerprinted. The nine policies that were approved concerned technology information processing, technology information security, sharing passwords, media disposal policies, physical protection of information policies, incident response policies, criminal justice incident response, criminal justice access policies, and hit information policies.
