A child predator who faked his death to avoid sentencing for child sex crimes was arrested at an Airbnb in Scottsdale, Arizona Saturday, after nearly 10 months on the run. Fugitive of Justice paperwork filed with the Maricopa County Court shows Cacconie was arrested at a condo in Scottsdale. KCRA 3 spoke with the property owner who says whoever made the two-week booking used a fake photo and name. The property owner said Cacconie was scheduled to check out the day after the FBI arrested him. Cacconie had been on the run since he failed to appear at his sentencing hearing in South Lake Tahoe in August. His ankle monitor disconnected the prior week in San Francisco. KCRA Investigates uncovered that no one from the El Dorado County probation department went looking for him. Cacconie’s family later reported him missing in San Francisco and claimed he left a suicide note. A KCRA3 investigation uncovered El Dorado County Judge Michael Mclaughlin allowed Cacconie to leave court the same day he was found guilty of six felony child sex crimes, even though he faced up to 18 years at sentencing.Two retired judges and a state lawmaker criticized the move and said Judge Mclaughlin who was appointed by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018 should’ve ordered Cacconie into custody the same day he was convicted. According to an FBI affidavit, Cacconie tried to flee to the Philippines in 2023 when his original arrest warrant was issued for the crimes against his eleven-year-old victim.El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson pledged last month to charge anyone who helped hide Cacconie. When asked this week if that was still the plan. his office declined to comment. Cacconie remains in Arizona, according to Maricopa County Sheriff jail records and authorities have not answered when he’ll return to El Dorado County.
