Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced last week that the state has reached a settlement with Roblox, an online gaming platform popular with children and teenagers, that will require age verification, expanded parental controls and stronger safeguards against child exploitation.

Under the agreement, Roblox will implement age verification measures and parental consent requirements, block nighttime notifications for children and teens and limit minors to age-appropriate content, according to the attorney general’s office.

“Big Tech put their profits ahead of our children’s physical safety and mental wellbeing,” Fitch said in a statement. “That’s unacceptable and we will continue to hold them accountable. Our children’s future depends on our willingness to seek transformational change in this digital age, and we will accept nothing less.”

The settlement also expands parents’ ability to monitor and control their children’s use of the platform. Parents will be able to restrict who their children communicate with, limit screen time, control which games they can access and oversee transfers of the platform’s virtual currency, known as Robux.
