The Indian vehicle manufacturer Bajaj Auto has reported that it has been a victim of a ransomware attack that has affected its operations and one of its technology subsidiaries.

Specifically, it is Bajaj Auto Technology Limited, a subsidiary focused on technological development, engineering, and research.

According to the company in a regulatory communication, it detected the incident last Tuesday the 23rd in the morning and took preventive measures to contain its impact.

Additionally, the automotive company has assured that its technical teams and cybersecurity experts responded immediately and that the mitigation actions have been, so far, “successful.”

For the moment, it is unknown which extortion group is behind this attack. The company has also not revealed whether any data theft occurred, the nature of such data, or how much the cybercriminals demanded as ransom.

Bajaj Auto is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in India, with a production that includes motorcycles, scooters, and commercial vehicles. It is also considered the world’s largest producer of three-wheeled vehicles, popularly known as autorickshaws.

Tata has also been attacked

According to The Record Media, the revelation comes in a context of several cybersecurity incidents that have recently affected large Indian manufacturing companies.

Earlier this week, Tata Electronics confirmed another incident after a criminal group published supposed confidential documents stolen from the company. However, the authenticity of these files has not been independently verified.

The ransomware group linked to that case, known as World Leaks, has previously claimed attacks against organizations in the manufacturing, healthcare, technology, energy, and consumer services sectors.

However, there is currently no evidence linking the attack on Bajaj Auto with the incident suffered by its competitor.
