A top Israeli security official has claimed that the number of cyberattacks launched by Iran against Israel has skyrocketed in 2026 since the US-Israeli offensive against Tehran began. According to a report by news agency Reuters, Yossi Karadi, the Director General of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate, stated that the digital battlefield has grown more aggressive. In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, Karadi provided data suggesting how quickly the conflict has escalated in cyberspace.

200% surge in Iran hacking, says Israel

According to Israel’s tracking systems, authorities registered approximately 1,600 hostile cyber incidents in June 2025 while Israeli military operations were underway. Exactly one year later, in June 2026, that number jumped to a staggering 4,800 cyber incidents per month – a three-fold increase in the activity.“Some groups are very skilled. We can handle them, but we have to take them seriously. Unlike in the kinetic (physical) realm, there’s no ceasefire in cyberspace,” Karadi told the newspaper, as per Reuters.

‘Hackers attacked critical infrastructure and even small businesses’

Israeli officials noted that Iranian hacking groups are casting a wide net, targeting everything from vital national systems to everyday private citizens. The electronic warfare campaign is currently directed at critical national infrastructure, including power grids, water systems and central government organisations.Israel also claims that public-facing digital systems and consumer databases have also been attacked as well as small and medium businesses like local law practices and accounting firms have been hit.Karadi noted that while Israel has successfully fended off all major attacks on its highly protected critical infrastructure so far, smaller companies have suffered heavy damage. Smaller businesses are often much easier for hackers to penetrate, and Karadi revealed that many of these targeted firms have had their entire computer systems completely wiped out by malicious software.
