WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Fidelity Bank and AARP are partnering with the city of Wichita to hold three workshops on Monday, providing tips and resources to help people stay informed and financially secure.
The workshops are being held on National Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which aims to shed light on injustices against older adults, including protecting their finances.
The sessions will help people detect scams, safeguard their information and learn how to seek help if they suspect elder financial abuse.
“The number of crimes, financial crimes against senior citizens are rising dramatically each year, based upon the Department of Justice,” said Shelby Minnis-Maxwell, senior financial literacy specialist at Fidelity Bank. “And so, we thought that this would be the best time to recognize and make the community aware of what to look for and what things that they can prepare for.”
The workshops will take place at the Wichita Advanced Learning Library at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The sessions are free and no pre-registration is necessary.
