The Mifflin County District Attorney has issued a statement following the release of a social media video involving a Lewistown police officer and a child predator hunter group. The video appears to show a man attempting to turn himself in to Lewistown police, claiming he had an inappropriate conversation with a 13-year-old girl. In the footage, a police officer is seen dismissing the man and stating that they are working with the district attorney on the case. “Efforts by vigilante groups to expose these individuals do not always satisfy the legal requirements necessary to prosecute individuals,” the district attorney said. The district attorney added that because of these legal requirements, law enforcement cannot make an immediate arrest. However, they noted that the Lewistown Police Department is actively investigating this specific case and the video shared online.
