Prince Harry’s Week Just Got Worse | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

Prince Harry isn’t only lacking a royal place to stay during his visit to the UK this week: His long-running fight with a major British tabloid also just hit a wall. A London judge on Tuesday rejected his lawsuit accusing the company behind the Daily Mail of illegally digging into his private life, along with claims brought by several other high-profile figures, reports the New York Times. Harry and co-plaintiffs including Elton John, David Furnish, Liz Hurley, and Jude Law ex Sadie Frost had alleged years of phone hacking and other improper snooping by Associated Newspapers between 1993 and 2011—allegations the publisher has consistently denied.

The case, the last of Harry’s current batch of tabloid battles, followed his 2023 win against Mirror Group and a 2025 settlement with Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers, which conceded unlawful activity and agreed to pay him “substantial” damages. This time, after a weekslong High Court trial in London estimated to have cost about $53.5 million in legal fees, the judge sided with the publisher, which called the decision an “overwhelming victory” and “magnificent vindication,” per the AP.

Associated Newspapers adds that it will seek to recover legal costs from the case, per the Guardian. The ruling landed while Harry, now based in California with his family, was back in Britain on a visit already clouded by speculation over royal tensions. “Prince Harry gave no outward indication of disappointment or frustration as he arrived at Chatham House in London shortly [after the ruling], where he appeared upbeat and engaged,” People notes.
