The Latin American e-commerce giant Mercado Libre is reported to have suffered a cyberattack.
The ransomware group The Gentlemen, one of the most active at the moment, has included the Argentine company on its dark web leak site.
The threat actor has not clarified what specific data it possesses or how it managed to obtain it.
However, at the time of writing this article, it appears that the Mercadolibre.com portal is functioning normally and shows no apparent signs of having been hacked.
Mercado Libre, founded in 1997 by entrepreneur Marcos Galperin and used by millions of people, not only operates its well-known e-commerce marketplace but also has a tool called Mercado Pago and a logistics service known as Mercado Envíos.
The company has a workforce of nearly 85,000 employees and operates in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The Gentlemen is proving to be especially active in this 2026. Just a few days ago, the group claimed responsibility for a cyberattack suffered by the tech giant Indra. The hackers managed to access one of its subsidiaries, although the Spanish company assured that it had contained the incident and that it had not spread to other units.
This group usually targets high-value organizations in Western countries. The idea is that these are forced to pay to avoid legal impact, disruption of critical services, or reputational damage.
Thus, they are particularly interested in companies from sectors such as ICT, manufacturing, business services, health, energy, and logistics.
The Gentlemen would accumulate more than 300 victims internationally so far this year, according to some security researchers.
