Nevada County Public Health is expanding child passenger safety resources to families throughout the county. Families may access safety checks and education at no cost, and low‑income families may receive a free car seat through participating locations.
“This program ensures that every parent or caregiver has access to the information and equipment needed to keep their child safe,” said Jessica Ferrer, Director of Maternal Child Adolescent Health.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) are available at several sites to assist with installations, fittings and safety checks. Please call ahead to confirm installer availability. Current service sites include:
Grass Valley

Public Health and community partners will hold community education events and technician trainings throughout the year to support continued outreach and education

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and aims to improve road safety for children across the county by:
- Reducing injuries and deaths from traffic crashes.
- Increasing the correct use of child safety seats.
- Reducing misuse through education and individualized assistance.
