The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 11 people in an intelligence-led operation at Fafa Community in Tema after investigations revealed that two individuals initially believed to be victims of human trafficking were allegedly helping to run a cybercrime syndicate.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the operation was carried out by the Tema Regional Police Intelligence Directorate following intelligence on suspected cyber-enabled criminal activities.
According to her, six of the 11 people arrested were initially identified as victims of human trafficking who had been brought from Nigeria to Ghana.
However, further investigations revealed that two of them, Godstine Terry, 34, and Wilson Makuo, 21, were allegedly coordinating the activities of the criminal network.
COP Donkor said another suspect, identified only as Jerry, is believed to have facilitated the movement of the victims from Nigeria into Ghana. He remains on the run, and police have launched a manhunt for him.
She said all the suspects had been arraigned before a Circuit Court and remanded into police custody to assist with investigations.
Electronic devices recovered during the operation have also been secured for digital forensic examination.
According to the CID Director-General, investigations are continuing to identify other people connected to the syndicate.
She explained that the Tema operation forms part of the Police Service’s intensified efforts to combat cyber-enabled crime and human trafficking across the country.
