The National Emergency Medical Center at the National Medical Center announced that it will improve and operate the counseling procedures of its pediatric specialized counseling center, “Child Safety Talk,” starting from the 24th.
Child Safety Talk is a service that provides specialized counseling 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for sudden symptoms in children aged 12 and under. When a guardian accesses the website and answers questions about the child’s age and symptoms, an expert determines whether the situation is an emergency and can provide consultations with doctors or nurses.
The medical center revamped the service to provide questions more appropriate to the child’s age and symptoms, to use everyday expressions that guardians can easily understand, and to allow input of everything from basic questions to symptoms, detailed questions, and additional matters on the same page.
If an emergency signal is identified during the counseling process, the service gives priority guidance on necessary actions such as visiting a medical institution or calling 119. If the guardian continues counseling afterward, the service provides guidance answers generated by artificial intelligence (AI) as reference information, and connects the guardian to consultations with doctors or nurses when no emergency signal is identified.
The medical center advised that children are prone to fever, injuries, and water play accidents during summer outdoor activities and swimming, and that initial responses are important because access to medical institutions can be difficult at vacation spots or during nighttime hours.
“Even with the same symptoms, the necessary response for children can vary depending on age and overall condition,” said Baek So-hyun, head of the National Medical Center’s pediatric specialized counseling center. “If a child’s condition worsens, such as being unable to drink well or becoming severely lethargic, they should visit a medical institution. Conversely, when it is difficult to determine whether immediate treatment is needed, such as when a child has a fever but is active as usual, Child Safety Talk counseling can be helpful.”
