MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is launching a free “Senior Fraud Prevention Tour” at multiple locations across the county to help older adults and their families recognize, avoid, and report common scams.
The tour, which begins Thursday, is designed to educate seniors, caregivers, and community members on how to defend against increasingly sophisticated financial exploitation schemes.
During the presentations, attendees will learn practical strategies to identify fraudulent activity before becoming victims. The Sheriff’s Office plans to cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Phone and text message scams
- Grandparent scams and AI voice-cloning fraud
- Identity theft prevention
- Online safety tips and financial fraud awareness
- How to spot and report suspicious activity
“Our goal is to empower our community with the knowledge they need to stay one step ahead of scammers,” Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said. “Education is one of the strongest tools we have to prevent fraud and protect our seniors from becoming victims.”
The presentations are free, open to the public of all ages, and will be held at the following locations:

- Tuesday, Aug. 4 | 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Daniel Island Library, 2301 Daniel Island Drive, Daniel Island
- Tuesday, Aug. 18 | 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Sangaree Library, 595 Sangaree Parkway, Summerville
- Tuesday, Aug. 25 | 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Macedonia Christian Church, 2428 N Hwy 17A S, Bonneau
- Thursday, Sept. 24 | 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Del Webb Point Hope, 2337 Bay Strip Drive, Charleston
