Can AI Be Trusted to Defend the Enterprise? Mate Security Raises $35 Million

As enterprises rush to deploy AI across their security operations centers (SOCs), one question continues to slow adoption: Can security teams trust AI agents to investigate threats—and eventually respond to them autonomously?

Israeli cybersecurity startup Mate Security believes the answer lies not in more powerful AI models, but in giving them a better understanding of the organizations they protect. Investors appear to agree. The company has raised $35 million in a Series A funding round led by Canaan Partners, with participation from Insight Partners, Team8 and M12, Microsoft’s venture fund.

The investment comes just eight months after Mate emerged from stealth with a $15.5 million seed round, bringing its total funding to more than $50 million.

Founded by CEO Asaf Wiener, Chief Product Officer Oren Saban and CTO Guy Fergel, Mate is developing an AI-native security operations platform that enables organizations to detect, investigate and respond to cyber threats using AI agents. The company’s approach centers on what it calls an organizational “context layer”—a shared knowledge base that helps AI understand how a business operates before drawing conclusions or recommending action.

Rather than treating every anomaly as malicious, the platform considers operational context. A suspicious login may coincide with a scheduled penetration test, while a large file download could become a high-priority alert if the system knows the employee is about to leave the organization and is accessing sensitive information.

According to the company, the platform has already been adopted by Fortune 500 enterprises, and its business has grown by more than 500% since the third quarter of 2025.

“When we started Mate, we knew trustworthy AI security required more than advanced models,” said Wiener. “It requires deep organizational context and mechanisms that allow security teams to understand and trust the actions AI agents take.”

The company said the new funding will be used to expand operations and meet growing enterprise demand as organizations redesign security operations to keep pace with AI-driven threats.
