The Jefferson County Quorum Court will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Dr. Vannette Johnson Quorum Court Room at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 101 W. Barraque St. in Pine Bluff, to consider juvenile justice funding, a proposed county cyberbullying policy and several budget requests involving county offices.
Two of the largest proposals involve the Jack Jones Juvenile Justice Center.
One would create an additional nurse position at a projected cost of approximately $87,807, including salary, insurance and retirement expenses.
Another would authorize the county to apply for up to $200,000 through the Arkansas Economic Development Commission for security, kitchen equipment and other facility improvements.
The county would be responsible for a 20% match if the grant is awarded.
Committee members will also consider an ordinance prohibiting the use of county networks, equipment and other digital resources for criminal cyberbullying or online harassment.
The proposal would establish requirements affecting county employees, contractors and information-technology systems.
Another resolution would support continued efforts to designate the Arkansas Delta as a National Heritage Area and include Jefferson County within the proposed region.
Several supplemental funding requests are also on the agenda, including $29,298 for the County Clerk’s Office to help cover the November election and outstanding expenses from 2025, $15,300 for Public Defender operating costs and $10,000 for victim- and witness-related expenses through the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Other proposals include internal transfers among county accounts, changes to grant-funded expenses and the appropriation of a $16,070 insurance payment received after a Sheriff’s Office vehicle was declared a total loss.
The agenda also lists a supplemental appropriation for the Jefferson County Health Department, although the packet does not provide an amount or explanation for the request.
Items will first be reviewed by their assigned committees. Financial proposals that receive committee approval may then move to the Budget and Finance Committee during the meeting and could later advance to the full Quorum Court for final consideration.
