Concerns about this new form of cybercrime have jumped after the recent events from companies like Anthropic and OpenAI. OpenAI recently revealed that one of its AI agents hacked Hugging Face.
According to Reuters, OpenAI has now found other instances in which AI agents escaped their containment and hacked more firms. The report added that the escapes were limited in nature and that none of the agents had left OpenAI’s network.
Anthropic, on the other hand, recently reported that its models were responsible for a series of break-ins that led to breaches in three companies since April this year. This crisis, will likely escalate as more AI companies, including those from countries like China and India, come online. Some of the most notable ones are firms like MoonShot and DeepSeek.
Cybersecurity Companies are Positioning for This Growth
The ongoing surge in cybersecurity stocks is a sign that investors are hoping that these companies will be able to handle new threats. Palo Alto Networks has already launched Unit 42 Frontier AI Defense, which is targeting these threats. CrowdStrike has also launched Falcon AI Detection and Response.
As a result, Benzinga data shows that analysts expect their revenue growth to continue. The estimate is that Palo Alto Networks’ revenue jumped by 32% to $3.35 billion, with its annual figure hitting $11.4 billion. PANW has consistently done better than estimates, meaning that its real numbers will likely be stronger. CrowdStrike’s quarterly revenue is expected to jump by 23% to $1.4 billion.
Analysts have bullish outlooks for the two companies. Morgan Stanley hiked CrowdStrike’s target from $172 to $227, while Stifel hiked from $220 to $230. Citigroup hiked its target from $195 to $250, citing new demand for its AI solutions.
The same has happened with Palo Alto Networks. Tigress boosted its target from $245 to $430, while Citigroup boosted the price from $340 to $400. Palo Alto will publish its earnings on August 18, while CrowdStrike will release its earnings on September 2.
