69 child predator arrests made across Mississippi in statewide undercover sweep ‘Operation Muddy Waters’

Dozens of child predator suspects—including individuals holding positions of public trust—are behind bars following a massive two-week statewide undercover operation, law enforcement officials announced Monday afternoon.
The multi-agency effort, dubbed “Operation Muddy Waters,” culminated in 69 arrests across Mississippi aimed at combating child sexual exploitation. The Oxford Police Department hosted the press briefing alongside federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to outline the results of the sweep, which concluded last week.
Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch joined federal prosecutors, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to detail the charges, which include sexual exploitation, solicitation, sex offender registry violations, and the distribution of child pornography.
Authorities emphasized that many of those apprehended were “hiding in plain sight” despite a high rate of repeat offenses. According to officials, the majority of the suspects arrested had prior child sex offense records.
During the multi-agency push, officers served dozens of search warrants and seized numerous electronic devices. The operation drew on extensive cross-agency collaboration, pulling in support from the U.S. Marshals Service alongside sheriff’s departments from DeSoto, Marshall, Pearl River, Forrest, and Harrison counties.
While the preliminary sweep has concluded, law enforcement stressed that the work is far from over. Many of the cases uncovered during the operation remain active and under investigation.
Officials have not yet publicly released the identities of the 69 suspects.
