BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Scotty’s House has partnered with local law enforcement agencies to launch Safe Start Brazos Valley, a community education campaign timed to the back-to-school season.
The campaign features short videos pairing Scotty’s House staff with local law enforcement partners to address five areas of child safety. Although the campaign launches around the start of the school year, organizers said the information is relevant throughout the year.
What the campaign covers
Safe Start Brazos Valley addresses five connected topics:
- Safe Routes: Helping children travel safely and know what to do when something feels wrong
- Safe Adults: Teaching children how to identify trusted adults and ask for help
- Safe Communities: Giving adults tools to recognize concerns, protect children, and report suspected abuse
- Safe Online: Helping families navigate online risks and making it easier for children to report uncomfortable interactions
- Safe Conversations: Helping parents create an environment where children and teens feel safe sharing difficult information
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office is among the participating agencies. Its segment focuses on helping families build safer communities and understand how publicly available resources — including the sex offender registry — can be used responsibly.
Why law enforcement is involved
Organizers said child safety is a community responsibility and that law enforcement officers are already trusted partners in protecting children and families. The partnership is intended to deliver consistent, easy-to-understand safety information to families and to reinforce that prevention requires participation across the entire community.
Free education programs available
Safe Start Brazos Valley videos serve as an introduction to each topic. Scotty’s House also offers free community education programs for children, parents, educators, professionals, and other adults throughout its seven-county Brazos Valley service area.
Programs are available to schools, churches, civic organizations, professional groups, youth-serving organizations, and other community groups at no charge. Organizations can contact Scotty’s House to request a presentation.
Organizers emphasized that prevention education is not intended to frighten children, but to help them understand personal safety while teaching adults how to create safer environments and respond when a child needs help.
