TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) — Over $150,000 in cybersecurity protection enhancement grants are going to a list of Tompkins County communities. Funding emerged as a result of the provisions within the Strengthening Essential Cybersecurity for Utilities and Resiliency Enhancements, or SECURE program.
“Our wastewater and drinking water systems are cornerstones of public health, and it is absolutely critical that we continue to provide localities with funding to help them make improvements. This funding will help municipalities strengthen their cybersecurity posture against dangerous cyber threats. Clean water is essential to public health, and as infrastructure systems increasingly rely on digital and internet-connected technologies, we must continue to invest in safeguards against cyberattacks,” remarked NYS Senator Lea Webb of District 52.
SECURE grants help certain municipalities achieve minimum cybersecurity standards for essential utilities like drinking water and sewer operations. New standards were announced in March of this year, but grant awards ensure certain municipalities can build up and sustain a secure water system.
The following municipalities in Tompkins County will receive grant funding:
Village of Dryden:
Village of Freeville:
City of Ithaca:
$25,000 for the Drinking Water System Cybersecurity Assessment
$50,000 for the SECURE Grant
Village of Trumansburg:
Town of Virgil:
$10,000 for Virgil Water SECURE Grant Assessment
$10,000 for Virgil Wastewater SECURE Grant Assessment
