St. Paul, MN (MinnesotaNow) – A man described by federal prosecutors in Minnesota as a serial child sexual predator has been sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota says 31-year-old Trent Fair has been ordered to serve 260 months behind bars and another 20 years on supervised release for coercion and enticement of a minor. The Twin Cities man pleaded guilty to the charge in early April.
Investigation began in Virginia
According to court documents, Fair was arrested in Fairfax, Virginia, in January 2025 after authorities investigated an altercation involving him that led to allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. He was accused of contacting the 15-year-old girl online between August 2024 and February 2025 and grooming her for the purpose of obtaining sexually explicit material.
He Was Aware of Victim’s Age
Federal prosecutors say Fair was aware the victim was 15 years old when he convinced her to send him several sexually explicit videos. Court records state that he then traveled from Minnesota to Virginia for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with the child.
Investigators say other children were targeted
A news release on his sentencing in federal court says law enforcement later learned that Fair had used social media to solicit child sexual abuse materials from several other children, including some who were as young as 10 years old. The statement says that when Fair was confronted by investigators, he admitted producing child pornography involving at least a “few dozen” minor victims over several years.
His conviction was the result of an investigation by the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia and the FBI, with assistance from the Minneapolis Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.
