HARRISBURG, Pa. –Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) Monday announced more than $1.4 million in School Safety and Mental Health grants will be awarded to five school districts within the 183rd Legislative District.
According to a news release from Mako, the funding will be used to support physical security enhancements and/or mental health initiatives. It was renewed for the 2026-27 school year as part of the recently passed state budget.
The 183rd District includes Lowhill and North Whitehall townships and Slatington Borough in Lehigh County. It also consists of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Moore (part) townships, and Bath, North Catasauqua, Northampton and Walnutport boroughs in Northampton County.
“Every child deserves to feel safe while at school.” Mako said. “This funding will help school districts enhance security, increase access to mental health resources and better prepare for potential safety threats. I’m proud to support this important and worthwhile program.”
Mako says those receiving grants are:
Catasauqua Area School District – $173,782.
Northampton Area School District – $335,487.
Northern Lehigh School District – $173,074.
Northwestern Lehigh School District – $185,547.
Parkland School District – $533,650.
