A South Australian supplier of farm machinery is the latest Australian organisation to fall victim to a ransomware group, making it the 109th Aussie organisation to find itself listed on a darknet leak site this year alone.

The Storm ransomware group shared details of an alleged breach of Ramsey Bros, based in the town of Cleve, in a 17 August leak post.

According to the hackers, the data will be published in full on 4 September. No ransom demands have been shared; however, Storm has published more than a dozen documents allegedly stolen during the intrusion.

These include invoices, customer correspondence, vehicle inspection reports, and listings of vehicle identification numbers, as well as driver details and contact information.

Cyber Daily has reached out to Ramsey Bros for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Who is Storm?

Storm only emerged as a potential threat this month, although in that time the group has posted the details of 26 alleged victims, with three of them Australian, including Ramsey Bros.

The group describes itself as a “premier, results-driven firm operating at the intersection of high finance and specialised strategic services”.

Storm says it does not target organisations within the Commonwealth of Independent States and is actively recruiting affiliates.

“We are looking for dedicated specialists who operate with the highest level of proficiency,” Storm says on its leak site.

“If you are a professional seeking to align with a sophisticated global organisation, we invite you to reach out.”

Who is Ramsey Bros?

Ramsey Bros is a farm machinery distributor that has operated on the Eyre Peninsula for 70 years.

The company sells new and used machinery, as well as supplies parts and servicing. Ramsey Bros has six dealerships in South Australia and does business with more than 5,000 farms and businesses across the state.
