Trichy: City police inaugurated a new cybercrime helpdesk at the Subramaniapuram police station on Friday to assist citizens affected by online frauds and related banking issues.Set up on the directions of police commissioner N Kamini, the desk would function as a dedicated facilitation centre to help complainants recover money that was “frozen” after cybercrime reports.Victims who receive an SMS informing them that their funds were frozen are advised to approach the desk for assistance through the money restoration module (MRM) portal. The centre would also address grievances related to blocked bank accounts, guiding the public through the grievance redressal mechanism (GRM). Both MRM and GRM operate in coordination with the Indian cybercrime coordination centre (I4C) under the ministry of home affairs. While the public can report cyber frauds via the national helpline, 1930, or the national cybercrime reporting portal, the new local helpdesk aims to provide on-ground support for quick resolution. The desk would remain open from 9am to 6pm daily and can be contacted through 0431-2901695. Police urged people to make full use of the facility for prompt redressal.
