ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – AnMed confirmed on Friday that cybercriminals obtained information during a cybersecurity incident in July.

AnMed reported on July 26 that all hospital locations experienced a phone and internet outage after a cybersecurity incident involving malware disrupted its network.

A detailed review is underway to determine what information was involved and who may have been affected. Anyone affected will be notified directly, according to the hospital system.

AnMed officials are warning those affected that the cybercriminals may attempt to contact them, publish information or make other public claims. Patients are warned not to respond to suspicious communications, click links, open attachments, provide personal information or make a payment.

AnMed CEO William Kenley said, “I want to thank our patients, families and community partners for your patience, your flexibility and your support. It’s palpable. Our team can feel it, and it makes a difference. I recognize the concern, frustration and disruption the incident has caused, and I’m deeply sorry.”
