The Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HSLSA) has reached more than 3.10 lakh students through a statewide awareness campaign on child protection and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Launched on May 13, the campaign is being implemented by District Legal Services Authorities in coordination with education officials, school principals, teachers and other stakeholders.

Till August 15, as many as 2,296 awareness programmes had been organised in 1,731 schools and educational institutions, sensitising 3,10,841 students.

The programmes focus on age-appropriate discussions about child safety, responsible behaviour, safe use of technology and social media, cyber safety, prevention of exploitation and abuse, and mechanisms for reporting offences and seeking assistance.

The campaign also highlights the wider impact of offences on children’s education, careers, family life and social well-being. Officials said the objective was not limited to providing legal information but also to help children recognise potentially unsafe situations and understand the safeguards available to them.

The initiative is part of the authority’s efforts to promote preventive legal education, strengthen child protection and improve access to justice by equipping children with awareness of their rights and available support mechanisms.
