Vietnam’s FPT announces construction of education complex to develop skilled digital workforce.

Vietnam’s leading technology conglomerate, FPT, announced that it has begun construction of a 10.5-hectare education complex which will provide training on semiconductors, cybersecurity, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The complex is expected to offer programs from primary school through to the postgraduate level. The priority will be training in strategic technology fields at vocational and higher-educational levels, while its K-12 programs will combine general education with digital skills, technological thinking, and foreign-language instruction.

Such programs will help advance Vietnam’s National Semiconductor Human Resources Programme. The programme seeks to train at least 50,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030, including 15,000 in circuit design and 35,000 in other fields, with a focus on AI expertise. FPT has said it seeks to contribute to this by train 10,000 semiconductor engineers itself.

FPT also recently announced that it had become an OpenAI Select Partner to help organisations build, deploy, and scale AI in a responsible and effective manner. As this partnership will include integrating OpenAI’s frontier AI capabilities into FPT’s cybersecurity platforms, the company’s training in cybersecurity and strategic technologies will likely help further this partnership as well.

As a part of a broader strategic move to cement Vietnam’s position in the global semiconductor and AI supply chain, FPT’s construction of a training complex underlines the multi-faceted nature of such an objective. As a skilled digital workforce is key to reinforce digital sovereignty, ensuring access to education and training is as important as constructing new manufacturing capabilities and semiconductor fabs. Yet, this project also underlines the time required in achieving both marker leadership and digital sovereignty because such objectives depend on coordinating initiatives across different sectors. As a result, the project reflects the value of using private-public collaboration to encourage and accelerate digital transformation across education and industry.
