AUGUSTA, Kan. (KWCH) – Concerns are being raised by parents in Augusta after a man has been seen approaching children on an e-bike and sharing his personal phone number.
Social media posts are circulating about the man. After sharing his number, he tells the children to contact him.
“He uses the disguise of his Disney costumes and his e-bike, which is very trendy right now, to kind of get them to feel comfortable approaching him, and that is just predatory behavior,” said Jami Pechonick, a mom who lives in the area.
Pechonick has seen the posts about this man. She said that with school back in session, kids are more at risk, especially considering some concerning posts the man created.
“I picked my kids early from school today, because he has been online talking about being nude in front of the school, and it’s very concerning and it’s not… It feels that there is nothing we can do as parents,” Pechonick said.
Frustration is growing because parents want police to do something.
“Preventative measures will be great, but they just keep circling back, saying ‘there is nothing we can do right now, our hands are tied, he has not done technically nothing illegal,’” Pechonick said.
In the meantime, she urges other parents and members of the community to be vigilant.
“Be alert and be aware of your surroundings, and if you see something, say something. That is all we can do. Hold each other accountable for things,” Pechonick said.
12 News reached out to the Public Safety Department in Augusta. It said that staff is looking into this case.
