Trichy: Police have arrested three people for hacking a man and his mother with bill hooks near Ariyamangalam in Trichy over a worker-related dispute.Sources said M Manikandan, 29, has been buying rice from residents who purchase it from public distribution shops, and reselling it. He had employed Saddam Hussain to collect the rice. As Saddam did not report for work for several weeks, Manikandan called and threatened him. Saddam informed his brother Ibrahim, a history-sheet rowdy, about the threat.On Saturday night, Ibrahim, Sikandar Basha, Kishore and others confronted Manikandan near his house and attacked him with bill hooks. When his mother Ramuthai, 45, tried to intervene, the gang hacked her too and fled. Both were admitted to Trichy Government Hospital, where Manikandan lodged a complaint.Ariyamangalam police subsequently arrested the three assailants and registered a case under various sections of BNS for rioting, armed rioting, abuse, assault and related offences, besides section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. The accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
