Personal information belonging to nearly 220,000 users of South Korea’s leading cosmetic surgery platform, Gangnam Unni, has been leaked following a cyberattack, including sensitive details about consultations and procedures, local media reported Monday.
A total of 219,665 users were affected, including around 160,000 in South Korea and 48,000 in Japan, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing Healing Paper, the company operating the platform.
The breach also affected 4,218 users in Taiwan, 1,591 in Thailand, 481 in China and 5,308 in English-speaking and other countries.
The exposed information included names, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth and other personal details.
More sensitive records were also compromised, including the procedures for which users sought consultations, names of hospitals and doctors, preferred appointment times and photographs uploaded during consultations.
Information on procedures actually received, dates of hospital visits and procedures, and some payment details was also exposed.
Healing Paper said abnormal access to an application programming interface used to retrieve consultation records was detected on Sept. 4. The same attacker attempted to use another route a day later.
The company said it blocked the affected access routes, reported the breach to the Korea Internet & Security Agency and requested a police investigation.
