- When you’re evaluating vendors, how much of what you’re measuring is capability versus your own team’s ability to operationalize it?
- How do you separate “this solves a problem we have” from “this solves a problem we think we might have because the vendor made it sound scary”?
- What’s the actual difference between a proof of concept that proves something and one that just proves the vendor prepared well for two weeks?
- When procurement, legal, finance, and security all have veto power over a purchase, how do you prevent the vendor who survives that process from winning because they’re easiest to approve rather than most effective?
- How much does your existing stack determine what you’re allowed to buy next?
- At what point does “we’ve already invested so much in this vendor” stop being a valid factor in renewal decisions? When do you know when you’re throwing good money after bad?
- When you can’t fire the vendor because it’s too deeply embedded, who’s really running your security program?
- How do you evaluate a vendor when the people who will live with the tool every day weren’t in the buying conversation?
- How much of your vendor selection process is actually a risk transfer exercise, buying something you can point to if something goes wrong?
- Is “we went with the market leader” a security decision or a career protection strategy?
