Vijayawada : The Andhra Pradesh Police has stepped up its fight against cybercrime with the inauguration of a dedicated Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (C4) under the NTR Police Commissionerate in Vijayawada.
State DGP Harish Kumar Gupta inaugurated the C4 centre at the Krishna Lanka Police Station on Wednesday. The facility has been established to strengthen cybercrime detection, investigation and coordination, besides providing quicker assistance to victims of online fraud and other cyber offences.
Speaking at the inauguration, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta said cybercrime had emerged as a serious challenge in the state and stressed the need for a coordinated, technology-driven response. He announced that the state police would soon establish a cyber war room to strengthen its response to cyber offences.
The DGP also said similar Cyber Crime Coordination Centres would be established across all districts and that 20 cyber constables would be appointed in each district as part of efforts to build a specialised cybercrime response network.
DGP urged victims of cyber fraud to report incidents immediately by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or filing a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Early reporting, he said, is crucial in cybercrime cases as it can help police initiate action and trace the flow of fraudulent funds.
C4 to track cases from complaint to digital evidence
NTR Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu said the primary objective of the C4 centre was to strengthen the investigation of cyber offences by systematically analysing complaints, tracing digital footprints and following electronic evidence to identify offenders.
He said the police were also planning to appoint a dedicated Cyber SI in every police station, bringing cybercrime assistance closer to the public.
The cybercrime personnel will receive training in modern technologies and investigation techniques, officials said.
Awareness campaign to become first line of defence
The NTR Police is also focusing on public awareness, describing it as the first line of defence against cybercrime.
As part of the initiative, the police are developing awareness videos featuring characters such as ‘Khaki Babu’ and ‘Cyber Chitti’ and disseminating them through social media platforms. Innovative outreach programmes, including audio messages through campaign vehicles and the use of drones, are also being planned to spread cyber safety awareness among the public.
The C4 centre has been developed with the support of the Andhra Pradesh Police Housing Corporation and under the supervision of Cyber Crime DCP K. Krishna Prasanna and Cyber Crime ACP Bhanu Prakash Reddy.
