Dibrugarh: Tinsukia police arrested 11 youths for their alleged involvement in a cybercrime network suspected of facilitating banking fraud, fraudulent ATM withdrawals and online betting.The arrests came on Friday following coordinated raids at several locations based on specific information and technical intelligence. The accused, aged between 22 and 31, allegedly used mule bank accounts to receive, transfer and withdraw money suspected to have originated from cyber fraud, police said.Tinsukia additional SP (crime) Dinesh Pratap Singh Rathore, who led the operation, said police received information about a major cybercrime network operating in the district.“The network had been involved in various types of cybercrimes for many days. Based on this information, Tinsukia police teams raided different locations and apprehended 11 persons,” Rathore said.“Digital evidence has been found in their possession. Mobile phones, ATM cards, passbooks and diaries maintained to record their accounts have been recovered,” Rathore added.Investigators are examining the seized devices and documents to trace the flow of money and identify others allegedly involved. They are also probing possible links with cybercrime operators outside Tinsukia and Assam.A 31-year-old man, identified as Amit Singh of Tinsukia, has allegedly emerged as a key figure in the case. He was taken into police custody for questioning as investigators sought to establish his role and identify other suspected facilitators.The remaining accused were produced before the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Tinsukia on Saturday and sent to judicial custody.Police said mule bank accounts were a key focus of the investigation. Such accounts are often used by cybercrime networks to receive or transfer fraudulent funds, sometimes in exchange for commissions, making it difficult to trace the actual beneficiaries.
