A routine public service suddenly became unreachable, reviving concerns over Norway’s exposure to politically motivated cyberattacks and the security of its digital infrastructure.
The website of Norway’s parliament, known as the Storting, was hit by a DDoS attack. A Russian hacking group claimed responsibility for the incident.

From 3:00 p.m. local time on Monday, the parliament’s website experienced disruptions. The attackers sent a massive number of requests, overwhelming the servers.
The website disruptions will last for three hours.

Previous Cyberattacks on Norway
Over the past several years, Norway has repeatedly been targeted by cyberattacks. Among other systems, attackers targeted BankID and a Swedish agency responsible for labor conditions.
Last year, hackers also gained access to the control system of the Bremanger dam. As a result, water flowed out freely for four hours.
The Storting was already targeted by hackers in 2020. The new attack temporarily made it difficult to access the parliamentary website, but no longer-term consequences of the incident were reported.
