During the meeting in Silicon Valley, the United States, Hafid urged Roblox to understand and implement provisions under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection, known as PP TUNAS in Indonesia.
“We understand that Roblox is popular among Indonesian children. For that reason, we truly hope that Roblox loves our children, particularly by ensuring their safety,” she said, according to a statement issued here.
She welcomed the company’s efforts to strengthen safeguards for young users, including the introduction of facial age estimation technology, restrictions on communication features, and the launch of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select.
Nevertheless, the minister stressed the need for Roblox to implement more robust age verification measures for users under 16.
Hafid also highlighted the urgency of adhering to the safety-by-design principle, under which user safety is built into a platform’s features from the outset rather than introduced in response to violations or emerging risks.
In that context, she specifically asked Roblox to strengthen safeguards preventing children from interacting with strangers, ensuring they cannot move conversations beyond the platform’s built-in communication system.
She also called on Roblox to provide regular and transparent reports on its compliance with PP TUNAS and open an office or delegate a senior representative in Jakarta.
“Global platforms can operate anywhere. However, when they are present in and serve the Indonesian public, they must comply with Indonesian standards and regulations. Indonesian rules apply to all platforms operating in the country, without exception,” the minister affirmed.
Her remarks were welcomed by Baszucki, who assured the minister that Roblox recognizes its responsibility to protect young users and is prepared to comply with Indonesian regulations.
The Roblox CEO also highlighted the potential to implement the safety measures requested by Indonesia across the platform globally.
