An FBI official has issued an unusually direct public warning to the hacking group ShinyHunters, telling its members that US authorities know how to locate them following the arrest of a Dutch man earlier this month.
Brett Leatherman, assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, delivered the message in a video published Tuesday, Reuters reported.
“You know how to find us, and we know how to find you,” Leatherman said, addressing the group directly.
“I suggest you reach out first while the choice is still yours,” he added.
The statement followed the arrest in the Netherlands of a Dutch man earlier this month in connection with alleged cybercrime activity involving ShinyHunters.
The FBI has increasingly targeted cybercriminal networks involved in data theft, extortion and other online attacks, with international cooperation playing a key role in investigations.
Leatherman’s public address marks an unusual move for the FBI’s Cyber Division, directly signaling to members of a named hacking group that investigators are pursuing them.
The FBI did not immediately provide further details about the Dutch arrest or identify the specific investigations referenced in the video.
