The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says its Recovery Asset Team has blocked more than $1 billion in attempted theft from Americans since January 2025.
FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed this in a post on X, saying the amount represented a 16 per cent increase.
Patel said the agency was targeting the financial proceeds, criminal networks and scam compounds involved in cyber-enabled fraud before they could cause further losses.
“Cyber criminals thought they could steal from Americans and hide overseas. Wrong. Since Jan. 2025, our Recovery Asset Team has blocked $1+ BILLION in attempted theft — up 16%.” Patel said.
He added that the FBI was moving against cybercriminal operations before they could reach their intended victims.
“We hit the money, networks, and scam compounds before they hit you. This FBI moves first,” he said.
