Jayson Setera, 51, of Newberg, OR, was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison after investigators found approximately 170 photos and eight videos depicting child sexual abuse material on his phone, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer said.
Setera returned from an international trip aboard a flight that landed at Newark Liberty International Airport on Jan. 22, 2024, prosecutors said. Law enforcement agents searched his cellphone and found approximately 170 photographs and eight videos depicting child sexual abuse material, including material involving prepubescent children, prosecutors said.
Investigators also found messages in which Setera solicited child pornography and referred to the sexual abuse of young children, prosecutors said. Payments from Setera to people who sent him child pornography were also found, authorities said.
A federal jury convicted Setera on Wednesday, April 15, of possession of prepubescent child pornography and transportation of child pornography following a trial before U.S. District Judge Jamel K. Semper in Newark federal court. Semper imposed the statutory maximum sentence of 20 years on each count and ordered the terms to run consecutively, for a total of 40 years in prison.
“This sentence underscores our unwavering commitment to prosecute and hold accountable those involved in child sexual abuse material. The statutory maximum sentence imposed by the Court represents justice to the victims and should serve as a warning to others who engage in these heinous crimes,” U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer said.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, prosecutors said.
