Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has challenged the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over its portrayal of a joint cybercrime operation, insisting that Ghanaian authorities led the exercise.
In a post on X addressed to FBI Director Kash Patel, George said Ghanaian law enforcement and intelligence agencies led the Cyberhunt operations, with primary support from the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and the FBI.
He warned that portraying the operation as an exclusively American effort could undermine future international cooperation against cybercrime.
“As Ghana’s Minister responsible for Cybersecurity, I believe the fight against cybercrime is transnational and requires collaboration,” George wrote.

He added that suggesting the FBI acted alone in executing the operation could damage the spirit of partnership required to tackle cybercrime across national borders.

“To suggest the FBI acted solely to execute this operation in your tweet undermines the potential for future collaboration,” he said.
George urged Patel to reconsider the portrayal of the operation, stressing the importance of recognising the contributions of all participating agencies.
“I expect that you will reflect on the benefits of our continued cooperation and act accordingly,” he added.

The minister’s comments highlight the importance of international collaboration in combating cybercrime, with law enforcement agencies increasingly working across borders to investigate digital offences and dismantle criminal networks.
TVC News Online earlier reported that the FBI had announced the dismantling of an international cybercrime and criminal syndicate responsible for defrauding Americans in what it described as Operation Blackout identifying Ghana a one of the source of the crime.
FBI Director, Kas Patel, in a post on X took sole credit for the dismantling of the Transnational crime syndicate, this clarification from the Ghanaian government is a direct challenge to the penchant of the current FBI Director to present security successes as a solely American affair.
