The Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) was hit by a hacking attack that is confirmed to have leaked information on about 400 customers. The Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) reported it to financial authorities.
Lim Jin-woo, credit and mutual aid CEO of the Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) Central Association, said, “We have done our best to protect customers’ personal information, but we recognized that some customers’ personal information was leaked.”
The leaked information varies by individual, but was confirmed to include customer number, name, date of birth, encrypted resident registration number, account number, account balance, mobile phone number, home phone number, office phone number, home address, office address, and email address.
On the 4th, the Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) succeeded in blocking an attack from the same internet protocol (IP) address used in the Shinhan Bank hack. However, after being attacked again from a new IP, an information leak reportedly occurred. Any connection to recent hacking attacks in the financial sector that used artificial intelligence (AI) agents has not yet been confirmed.
The Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) is notifying customers individually by text if a personal information leak is confirmed, and plans to fully compensate for any customer damage caused by the leak of personal information.
Lim said, “We take this incident seriously and will review our entire personal information protection framework and management procedures, while strengthening our security systems to do our best to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.”
