Report Says AI Is Being Used in Most Ransomware Attacks | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #ransomware

Cybercriminals aren’t just dabbling in AI anymore—they’re building their business on it. A new global survey from cybersecurity firm Semperis found that 84% of organizations hit by ransomware say artificial intelligence was used in the attack, and nearly half say hackers turned the victims’ own AI tools against them. The report, based on responses from 1,200 IT and security professionals in nine countries, outlines a harsher landscape: 69% of victims were hit multiple times in a year, and 59% paid at least one ransom, CBS News reports.

Employees felt the attacks personally, the Hill points out. More than a third of the organizations reported psychological or physical threats against staff members, with some employees or relatives forced to relocate or change jobs. Former National Cyber Director Chris Inglis warned that autonomous ransomware is already here, per CBS, and argued that only AI-powered defenses can realistically keep up. “Holding you at physical risk is the latest phenomenon,” he said in a press release, “because we’ve covered most of the other risks.”
