Anne Arundel County is investigating a cybersecurity incident discovered in August, according to a news release.
The county said in the release that it will begin sending notification letters next week to people whose information may have been affected by a separate cyberattack in 2025.
Officials first noticed suspicious activity on the county’s computer network in February 2025, and an investigation found that someone gained unauthorized access between Jan. 28 and Feb. 22, 2025.
The types of information access potentially affected vary by person, according to the release. Officials urged people to review account statements, credit reports and explanations of benefits for unusual activity or errors, and report suspicious activity to the appropriate healthcare provider, insurer and bank.

In the separate incident, the county detected irregular activity on a limited number of systems this summer on Aug. 28. Investigators determined that someone gained unauthorized access to those systems and copied certain files, officials said.
The August incident did not disrupt county operations, and officials said they do not expect any impact on essential services.
The county said it has found no indication that files from the August incident have been used to commit consumer fraud or identity theft, or that the incident was related to any previous cybersecurity incident. Cybersecurity specialists are reviewing the files to determine what information they contain and whether anyone’s personal information was affected.
