BEEVILLE – The Beeville City Council took action on several administrative and service measures during its Oct. 13 meeting, tightening cybersecurity protocols for municipal infrastructure, renewing a library agreement and accepting local tourism accounting. In major infrastructure action, council members voted unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 2026-22, establishing a formal security and access control policy for the city’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. The automated systems electronically monitor and manage Beeville’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.Ryan Guthrie, IT technician at Beeville City Hall, presented the measure, emphasizing that establishing formal digital and physical controls is vital to safeguard municipal water operations against cyber intrusions, unauthorized access and operational disruptions. The framework limits system access to cleared and trained personnel and establishes standardized user authentication and incident response protocols.Moving to community services, the council approved the annual interlocal agreement between the city and the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library. Library Director Rosie Amaya addressed council, noting that the routine annual contract is necessary to maintain state accreditation and support non-profit operations.”The contract you see before you is an agreement that is standard, what we use every year,” Amaya said. “We’re required to have a contract in place as part of our accreditation as well as a non-profit library.”Additionally, the council accepted the Bee County Chamber of Commerce’s third-quarter Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) report and authorized payment of the associated invoice. The quarterly accounting details municipal lodging tax revenues dedicated to promoting local tourism and municipal events.
