From Francis Sardauna, Adamawa
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, has directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Area Commanders and tactical teams to arrest and prosecute individuals involved in cyberbullying, sextortion and the non-consensual sharing of nude images and private videos.
The directive follows concerns over cases of online harassment, blackmail and the circulation of intimate images on social media in the state.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, a Superintendent of Police, warned that posting, forwarding or distribution of nude images, sex videos and other private pictures of individuals without their consent constitutes a criminal offence.
The statement explained that such acts are punishable under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended and other relevant laws of the country.
It urged parents to monitor their children’s online activities and advised victims of cyberbullying, sextortion and the unauthorised circulation of intimate content to report to the nearest police station or contact the command through its emergency lines.
It reiterated that the command would not tolerate any online harassment or invasion of privacy in the state.
