New requirements for Victoria’s Working with Children (WWC) Check are now in effect, introducing mandatory child safety training and additional reporting obligations for organisations.Under the changes, anyone applying for or renewing a WWC Clearance must complete child safety training before their application can be finalised.Victoria is the first Australian state to introduce mandatory training as part of the clearance process.Organisations employing or engaging workers and volunteers in child-related roles must also register their details through the new WWC Connect platform, available via Service Victoria. The platform allows the Social Services Regulator (SSR) to monitor the child-related workforce and notify organisations when a worker’s WWC Clearance status changes.New Reporting RequirementsThis includes notifying organisations of suspended clearances, allowing them to determine whether a worker or volunteer remains eligible to undertake child-related work.Engaging someone with a suspended WWC Clearance in child-related work is an offence. The changes follow recommendations from Victoria’s Rapid Child Safety Review, which examined child safety arrangements and identified areas requiring reform.Australian Childhood Foundation CEO Janise Mitchell said the training requirements were developed with input from survivors of child sexual abuse.“The mandatory child safety training is a direct response to feedback from survivors of child sexual abuse – it’s been shaped by their insights and built with their leadership.”Further information about the requirements is available through the Victorian Government’s website. !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s){if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function(){n.callMethod?
