City and school district officials will meet tomorrow, Oct. 27, for the seventh annual Menifee Education Summit, where discussions will focus on school safety, e-bike concerns and ways the city and local schools can work together. The summit, themed “Let’s be Safe,” will begin at 4 p.m. in the Menifee City Council Chambers, 29844 Haun Road.
According to materials prepared for the summit, e-bike safety was the most frequently raised concern during community outreach for the city’s developing Safety Master Plan at National Night Out in August. Residents raised concerns about multiple children riding on one bike, unsafe speeds, sidewalk riding and sharing roads with e-bikes.The Menifee Police Department’s presentation also identifies a Nov. 18 workshop to discuss possible updates to the city’s electric conveyance ordinance.Materials prepared for the summit also outline broader safety efforts throughout the city. Menifee’s Safety Master Plan will evaluate current and future needs involving police, fire, traffic safety and emergency management.Possible improvements include safer pedestrian crossings, additional bike infrastructure, traffic calming measures and expanded emergency preparedness programs. The summit will also include updates from city staff and a roundtable discussion with school representatives. The meeting is open to the public, and residents will have an opportunity to provide comments.
