The incident was not discovered by school management until several days later because the item had remained inside a school bag and was not seen by any member of staff.

South Lanarkshire Council confirmed it was an isolated incident and said risks had since been assessed, with appropriate safety measures put in place.
Jacqueline Wallace, Head of Education (Primary and Early Years), said: “We can confirm that there was an isolated incident in which it was learned that a pupil had taken a bladed item into school.
“The item was in a school bag and unseen by any member of staff, so school management only became aware several days after the incident occurred.
“The health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff is our top priority, and the school and council take incidents of this nature, however rare, very seriously.
“In line with protocols therefore, risks have been assessed and appropriate safety measures have been put in place.
“These arrangements will continue to be reviewed and adjusted where necessary.”
