WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A convicted sex offender faces over a decade in prison for possessing child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed that a federal court judge sentenced 63-year-old James Yohn to 180 months (15 years) in prison after Yohn pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The case against Yohn goes back to August of 2022, when authorities attempted to identify people suspected of distributing CSAM using an online file-sharing network. “They determined a user going by ‘Jimbo’ had shared multiple videos of prepubescent children subjected to sex acts,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office recounted. “An investigation linked the IP address to a home with an associated Recreational Vehicle (RV) in Rice County connected to James Yohn.” Yohn had a previous child sex crime conviction from 1994 in Reno County: indecent liberties with a child. In January of 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said a search warrant at Yohn’s Rice County home led to the discovery of “numerous devices and compact discs containing CSAM and peer-to-peer file-sharing clients containing CSAM.” Despite a prior conviction involving a child victim, Mr. Yohn chose to possess and collect child sexual abuse material,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser in a news release announcing Yohn’s sentencing. “These offenses are not victimless crimes. The sentence imposed reflects the serious harm caused by the exploitation of children and our determination to hold repeat offenders accountable.”The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that the FBI investigated the case.
